GENERAL EDUCATION: This course does not fulfill a General Education requirement.

DESCRIPTION: Students propose, develop the background for, and execute a research project culminating in prodution of a thesis (written in PH 488), either individually or in cooperation with other students. This project is in lieu of (or in addition to with approval) a professional internship.
TAUGHT: Fall
CONTENT AND TOPICS: Steps required in professional research, including literature search, experimental design and execution, and reporting.
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: 1. Students review the Physics curriculum.
2. Students experience the fundamentals of research including proposal, literature search, experimental design and execution, and reporting.
3. Collaborate with Faculty members and other students.
REQUIREMENTS: 1. Secure research project by receiving approval of proposal (generally written in PH 328).
2. Carry out research project.
3. Report progress weekly class meetings.
4. Bring research project to adequate conclusion as determined by advisor.
5. Prepare an abstract of completed research.
PREREQUISITES: PH 328 & Consent of Instructor.
OTHER: Student may propse the topic and begin research before the course formally beings UPON APPROVAL.
