COLLEGE: PHYSICAL SCIENCE & ENGINEERING
DEPARTMENT: PHYSICS
GENERAL EDUCATION: This course fulfills a General Education - Physical Science requirement.

DESCRIPTION: This course is the second semester of the algebra and trigonometry based Applied Physics sequence. This course includes a three-hour lab.
TAUGHT: Fall, Winter, Spring
CONTENT AND TOPICS: This course is the second semester of algebra and trigonometry based Applied Physics. It introduces students to the physical principles that govern electricity and magnetism, optics and other modern physics topics such as atomic and nuclear physics, relativity, cosmology and particle physics. It is designed to help students learn to think analytically in terms of these principles. It also teaches student good problem solving skills.
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: 1.Understand the physical principles and vocabulary used to describe above topics.
2.Converse intellectually with others on these scientific topics and understand relevant articles from newspapers and magazines.
3.Describe the methodology of science and the relationship between observation and theory.
4.Recognize the broad nature of physics and apply its concepts to other disciplines such as biology, architecture, construction, and manufacturing.
5.Analyze physical problems and develop correct solutions to these problems through application of natural laws.
6.Express knowledge and ideas through written language.
7.Communicate and work effectively together with others with a wide range of intellectual backgrounds.
8.Read and understand books and other literature that relate to course topics.
9. Participate in the methodology by performing laboratory exercises.
